  • Auschwitz Liberation Day
  • Holocaust Memorial Day (UK)
  • International Day of Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust
  • Vietnam Peace Day
  • 1591: As part of the Berwick Witch Trials, Scottish schoolmaster Dr. John Fian was burned for witchcraft at Castle Hill, Edinburgh by order King James VI
  • 1593: The Vatican opened a 7 year trial against scholar Giordano Bruno
  • 1825: The US Congress approved the Indian Territory (present-day Oklahoma), clearing the way for the forced relocation of the Eastern Indian tribes via what would come to be known as the “Trail of Tears”
  • 1900: The Social Democrat Party of America held its first convention
  • 1945: Soviet troops liberated Auschwitz and Birkenau Concentration Camps in Poland
  • 1967: A treaty was signed banning the military use of nuclear weapons in space
  • 2019: A tornado struck Havana, Cuba, killing three people and injuring 172 more
  • 2019: A landslide killed 15 people at a wedding party at a hotel in Abancay, Peru
