- 1531: Lisbon was hit by an earthquake killing about 30,000 people
- 1700: A Cascadia earthquake between magnitude 8.7-9.2 took place off the west coast of the North America
- 1871: The US income tax was repealed
- 1907: The first Federal corrupt Election Practices law in the US was passed
- 1907: In Austria, universal, direct suffrage for males over 24 was introduced, a reform long demanded by socialists and others
- 1910: Heavy rains caused flooding in Paris
- 1931: Hungary and Austria signed a peace treaty
- 1940: The Nazis forbade Polish Jews to travel on trains
- 1957: The Dutch Pacifist Socialist Party formed
- 1969: Police broke up a march by hundreds of demonstrators in central Prague
- 1980: Israel and Egypt established diplomatic relations
- 2001: An earthquake hit Gujarat, India causing more than 20,000 deaths
- 2015: Libby Lane was ordained as the first female bishop of the Church of England
- 2016: Ammon Bundy, the leader of a militia group occupying the Malheur wildlife refuge was arrested and Robert LaVoy Finicum was killed in a shoot-out with Federal agents
