- 1891: Jews were expelled from Moscow, Russia
- 1945: The Flossenburg Concentration Camp was liberated
- 1969: The Unionist Parliamentary Party voted 28 to 22 to introduce universal adult suffrage in local government elections in Northern Ireland
- 1991: The USSR granted republics the right to secede under certain conditions
- 1993: Eritrea voted to secede from Ethiopia
- 2019: The second of two major earthquakes struck the island of Samar, Philippines at a magnitude of 6.3, a day after a magnitude 6.1 quake hit Luzon Island killing at least 16 people
