On This Day

  • National Making Life Beautiful Day
  • 1934: A Disarmament Conference in Geneva failed
  • 1938: A 5.0 Earthquake in Belgium killed 2 people
  • 1967: A Race Riot occurred in Tampa, Florida
  • 1981: A 6.9 magnitude earthquake in Golbaf, Iran, killed at least 2,000 people
  • 1984: The US Supreme Court declared illegally obtained evidence may be admitted at trial if it could be proved that it would have been discovered legally
  • 1990: The US Supreme Court ruled a law prohibiting desecration of the US flag was unconstitutional
  • 2012: Two earthquakes in Afghanistan triggered landslides. More than 80 people were killed
  • 2018: “Net neutrality” was officially repealed by the Federal Communications Commission in the US
  • 2018: In a landmark ruling US Attorney General Jeff Sessions rejected an El Salvador woman’s asylum request based on domestic abuse
  • 2019: Botswana overturned a colonial era law criminalizing same-sex relationships in a landmark African LGBTQ case
