  • 1968: the My Lai massacre occured when American soldiers killed about 400 unarmed Vietnamese civilians in one of the most controversial incidents of the Vietnam War
  • 2013: A €10 billion Cyprus bailout wiped out 10% of the citizens’ bank deposits
  • 2014: Voters in Crimea voted overwhelmingly to leave Ukraine and rejoin Russia amid international condemnation of its design
