  • International Day Against Police Brutality
  • World Consumer Rights Day
  • 1391: An anti-Semitic monk in Seville, Spain stirred people up to attack Jews
  • 1848: Revolutionaries demonstrated in Pest with a list of demands, called the 12 Points, that the Emperor’s representatives agreed to
  • 1855: Louisiana established the first health board to regulate quarantines
  • 1867: Michigan became the first state to tax property to support a university
  • 1892: New York State introduced an automatic ballot booth voting machine
  • 1901: Horse racing was banned in San Francisco, with the last race to take place March 16th
  • 1907: Finland became the first European country to give women the right to vote
  • 1913: Woodrow Wilson gave the first US Presidential press conference
  • 1913: Cleveland, Ohio established the first small claims court
  • 1928: Benito Mussolini modified Italy’s electoral system, banning competing political parties and changing the elections to a simple plebiscite where the people simply voted for or against the slate put forth by the National Fascist Party
  • 1933: The NAACP began a coordinated attack on segregation and discrimination
  • 1937: North Carolina became the first state to incorporate birth control into a public health program
  • 1941: A blizzard in North Dakota killed 151 people
  • 1951: Persia nationalized the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company
  • 1955: The Dutch Second Chamber adopted a requirement for TV licenses
  • 1961: South Africa withdrew from the British Commonwealth
  • 1966: Race riots erupted in the Watts section of Los Angeles
  • 1968: The US Mint stopped buying and selling gold
  • 1977: The US House of Representatives began a 90 day test of televising its sessions
  • 1982: Nicaragua suspended the rights of their citizens with the justification it needed to defend against the rebel Contras
  • 1991: 4 Los Angeles Police officers were charged with excessive force for beating Rodney King
  • 1993: In a landmark case, Mohamed Tabet, the police commissioner of Casablanca, was convicted of sexually abusing over 1,500 women and sentenced to death
  • 1998: A 6.4 earthquake hit Southeastern Iran
  • 2019: Climate change strikes inspired by Swedish teenage Climate Change Activist Greta Thunberg were held by school children around the world
  • 2020: European countries imposed restrictions on gatherings and border crossings as COVID-19 deaths rates rose dramatically
  • 2020: The US Federal Reserve slashed interest rates to near zero to support the economy during the COVID-19 pandemic
  • 2021: Mass March 4 Justice rallies were held across Australia to protest against violence and discrimination towards women
  • 2021: The largest sandstorm in northern China in a decade engulfed Beijing, turning air pollution levels hazardous
  • 2021: The Vatican issued a judgement that priests cannot bless same-sex unions, because God “does not and cannot bless sin”
