- 1815: Mount Tambora in the Dutch East Indies experienced a cataclysmic eruption, one of the most powerful in history. It killed around 71,000 people, and caused a global volcanic winter
- 1826: 10,500 inhabitants of the Greek town Messolonghi started leaving the town after a year’s siege by Turkish forces. Very few of them survived
- 1972: A 7.0 earthquake killed 1/5 of population of Iranian province of Fars
- 1979: During the Red River Valley Tornado Outbreak a tornado landed in Wichita Falls, Texas and killed 42 people
- 2016: Explosions and fire caused by fireworks at Puttingal Temple in Kerala, India, killed more than 100 and injured nearly 400
- 2016: The Hong Kong pro-democracy political party DemosistÅ was established by Nathan Law, Joshua Wong and Agnes Chow
