- 1264: Anti-Jewish riots broke out in Arnstadt, Germany
- 1391: Castilian sailors attacked the Jewish ghetto of Barcelona, Spain, killing hundreds of people
- 1861: US President Lincoln signed the Revenue Act of 1861, imposing the first US personal Income Tax
- 1900: In Russia, anti-Jewish riots spread from Odessa into other parts of the country
- 1914: The US and Nicaragua signed a treaty granting canal rights to the US
- 1921: The US and Germany signed the Treaty of Berlin
- 1925: Plaid Cymru was formed to disseminate knowledge of the Welsh language, which is in danger of dying out
- 1944: German forces began massacring 40,000 – 50,000 Polish civilians in Warsaw’s Wola district during an uprising
- 1949: A 6.4 earthquake struck Ecuador’s Tungurahua Province, and killed 5,000 people
- 1960: Burkina Faso (formerly Upper Volta) declared independence from France
- 1981: US President Reagan fired 11,500 striking air traffic controllers
- 2013: 160 people were killed by flash floods across Afghanistan and Pakistan
- 2015: Torrential rains and flooding left at least 178 people dead in India, in the wake of Cyclone Komen
- 2018: A 6.9 earthquake on the island of Lombok, Indonesia, killed at least 460 people and displaced 350,000 people
