  • In 1983, a tornado tore through Los Angeles, injuring 33 people
  • In 1985, the US military leadership at the Pentagon accepted the theory that atomic war would cause a nuclear winter
  • In 2002, the US invasion of Afghanistan began in eastern Afghanistan as US special operations forces infiltrated the Shahi-Kot Valley in Eastern Afghanistan
  • In 2007, tornadoes swarmed across the southern United States, killing at least 20. Eight of the deaths were at a high school in Enterprise, Alabama
  • In 2016, two Guatemalan military officers were convicted of sexual slavery during the country’s civil war. It was the first ever prosecution of sexual slavery during an armed conflict
