- World Understanding And Peace Day
- In 1836, the Alamo was besieged for 13 days (until March 6) by a Mexican army under General Santa Anna. The entire garrison was eventually killed
- In 1904, having occupied Korea, Japan signs a treaty with Korea under which it becomes a Japanese protectorate in return for Japanese protection from other powers
- In 1945, the US Marines raised the American flag on top of Mt. Suribachi, Iwo Jima
- In 1967, the 25th Amendment to the US Constitution, regarding US Presidential succession, was adopted
- In 1998, the US Supreme Court let “Megan’s Law”, regarding sex offenders’ information, stand
- In 1998, tornadoes in Florida killed at least 31
- In 1999, an avalanche destroyed the Austrian village of Galtür, killing 31
