- 1430: Jews were expelled from Speyer, Germany
- 1809: Citizenship was denied to Jews of Aargau Canton, Switzerland
- 1920: US President Woodrow Wilson outlawed the Communist Labor Party
- 1945: The Mauthausen Concentration camp in Austria was liberated by US forces
- 1945: People in Prague rose up against occupying SS troops
- 1947: Mississippi Valley flooding killed 16 and causes $850 million in damage
