- International Self Care Day
- 1487: Citizens of Leeuwarden, Netherlands rebelled against a ban on foreign beer
- 1823: Slavery was abolished in Chile
- 1877: US federal troops were used to combat strikers for the first time
- 1900: Race rioting in New Orleans killed 2 police officers
- 1919: During a race riot in Washington, D.C., 6 people were killed and 100 people were wounded
- 1941: Nazis killed the entire Jewish population of Grodz, Lithuania
- 1944: Soviet forces liberated Majdanek concentration camp
- 1964: Race riots in Rochester, New York began on this day and lasted through the 27th. During the riots, 4 people were killed
- 1967: Race riots occurred in Cambridge, Maryland and Detroit, Michigan
- 1982: Heavy rains caused a mudslide that destroyed a bridge in Nagasaki, Japan, resulting in the deaths of 299 people
- 1985: Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi signed a peace accord with Sikh leader Harchand Singh Longowai to settle the three-year Punjab crisis
- 2018: Wildfires near Athens, Greece, killed 91 people and injured 104 more
- 2019: Scientific Journals “Nature” and “Nature Geoscience” published three reports which stateed Global Warming is occurring at the fastest rate in 2,000 years andthere is a 99% scientific consensus that humans are the cause
