- 1701: The Great Peace of Montreal between New France and North American Indian nations was signed
- 1922: China was hit by a typhoon resulting in the deaths of about 60,000 people
- 1931: Spanish Catalonia agreed to autonomous status
- 1937: The US Congress passed The Marihuana Tax Act of 1937, essentially rendering marijuana and all its by-products illegal
- 1939: The US’ Hatch Act prohibited political activity by federal employees
- 1941: Jews were expelled from Hungarian Ruthenia
- 1942: 250 Dutch Catholic Jews were arrested and transported to Amersfoort Camp
- 1964: A race riot occurred in Jersey City, New Jersey
