- 1210: King John of England began imprisoning Jews
- 1349: The Duke of Brabant ordered the execution of all Jews in Brussels, accusing them of poisoning the wells
- 1570: The All Saints Flood: a tidal wave in the North Sea devastated the coastline of Northern Continental Europe from Holland to Jutland killing more than 1,000 people
- 1755: An earthquake near Lisbon killed more than 50,000 people in Portugal
- 1765: The Stamp Act went into effect in the British colonies
- 1976: Britain gave Gilbert Island (Kiribati) self rule
- 1981: Antigua and Barbuda gained independence from Britain
- 2012: Yellow fever killed 32 people and sickened 50 more in Darfur, Sudan
- 2018: Google employees staged a mass walkout to protest the company’s handling of sexual harassment
- 2020: Super typhoon Goni made landfall on Catanduanes island, Philippines, leaving at least 16 dead and 370,000 people displaced
