  • MDS World Awareness Day
  • National I Care About You Day
  • 1902: Santa Maria, Guatemala was hit by an earthquake, killing an estimated 6,000 people
  • 1935: Hurricane-produced floods killed 2,000 people in Jeremie and Jacmel, Haiti
  • 1941: 16,000 Jews were massacred in Odessa, Ukraine
  • 1955: Austria resumed its sovereignty for the first time since the Nazi occupation after the departure of the last Allied forces
  • 1960: Cuba nationalized all remaining US businesses
  • 1978: US President Jimmy Carter signed the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) into law
  • 1981: 200,000 people demonstrated in Brussels against cruise missiles
  • 2012: Hurricane Sandy made landfall in Cuba and Haiti killing 65 people and causing over $80 million in damage
  • 2018: Flash floods near the Red Sea in Jordan killed 17 people by washing away a school bus
  • 2018: Super Typhoon Yutu struck the Northern Mariana Islands of Saipan and Tinian with winds of 180mph (290km/h)
