- European Day of Remembrance for Victims of Stalinism and Nazism
- International Day for the Rememberance of the Slave Trade & Its Abolition
- 1789: As part of the French Revolution, The National Assembly proclaimed freedom of religious opinions
- 1866: The signing of the Treaty of Prague ended the Austro-Prussian War
- 1917: 13 people were killed during a race riot in Houston, Texas
- 1929: Arabs attacked Jews in Palestine
- 1976: Thousands of people died when a significant earthquake struck China
- 1987: Violent rainfall and floods in Bangladesh killed hundreds of people
- 1990: Armenia declared independence
- 1990: East and West Germany announced that they would reunite on Oct 3
- 2011: A 5.8 earthquake occurred in Mineral, Virginia that was felt as far north as Ontario and as far south as Atlanta, Georgia
- 2012: At least 30 people were killed as a result of monsoon rains in Rajasthan, India
- 2017: India’s death toll from swine flu rose above 1000 for the year with a total of 22,186 cases reported
- 2020: Jacob Blake was shot and injured by police in front of his children in Kenosha, Wisconsin, prompting protests
