- 781: The oldest recorded eruption of Mt. Fuji occurred
- 1751: A fire in Stockholm destroyed 1,000 houses
- 1922: A general strike against fascist violence was held in Italy
- 1940: Riechskommissar Seyss-Inquart banned homosexuals
- 1958: An Anti-Chinese uprising occurred in Tibet
- 1965: Cigarette advertising was banned on British TV
- 1976: Seychelles became independent
- 1987: A rare, class F-4 tornado ripped through Edmonton, Alberta. It killed 27 people and caused $330 million in damage
- 1990: Bosnia-Herzegovina declared independence
