- Intersex Awaerness Day
- 740: An earthquake struck Constantinople, causing significant damage and casualties
- 1407: Mobs attacked the Jewish community of Kraków
- 1749: The Georgia Colony reversed itself and ruled slavery is legal
- 1774: The Minutemen were organized in the American Colonies
- 1868: White terrorists killed several black Americans in St Bernard Parish, Louisiana
- 1896: Abyssinia and Italy signed a peace treaty
- 1939: Polish Jews were forced into obligatory work service
- 1949: US President Harry Truman increased the minimum wage from 40 cents to 75 cents
- 1950: Mother Teresa founded the Missionaries of Charity in Calcutta, India
- 1970: The US Bank Secrecy Act went into effect. It was designed to fight money laundering by requiring reporting of certain financial activities
- 1985: Hurricane Juan killed 97 people in the US
- 2001: US President George W Bush signed the USA PATRIOT Act into law with the stated intent of combating terrorism
- 2012: Hurricane Sandy made landfall in the Bahamas killing 2 people and causing over $300 million in damage
- 2015: A 7.5 magnitude earthquake struck northern Pakistan and Afghanistan killing over 300 people
