• 1697: The Peace of Ryswick ended the Nine Years’ War between France and the Grand Alliance
• 1864: The Treaty of Vienna was signed to end the Second Schleswig War
• 1868: John Menard of Louisiana became the first African American elected to the US Congress
• 1905: In the October Manifesto Russian Tsar Nicholas II granted civil liberties and accepted the first Duma (Parliament)
• 1920: The Communist Party of Australia was founded in Sydney
• 1939: USSR and Germany agreed on the partitioning of Poland, and Germany began deporting Jews
• 1954: The US Defense Department announced the elimination of all racially segregated regiments
• 1963: Morocco and Algeria signed a cease fire
• 1970: Three nights of serious rioting began in the Catholic Ardoyne area of Belfast
• 1980: Honduras and El Salvador signed a peace treaty ending the Football War
• 1995: Québec voteed in a referendum to remain part of Canada
• 2016: A 6.6 magnitude earthquake hit central Italy, the strongest in Italy for 36 years
• 2019: Kashmir officially lost their autonomous status, flag and constitution, as India brought it under federal control
• 2020: A 7.0 earthquake in the Aegean Sea killed at least 64 people in the Turkish city of Izmir and on the Greek Island of Samos
