Many days there are far too many anniversaries, holidays, and observances to post about individually on social media, so in an effort to have more of them available, LLPHP is going to experiment with posting them daily. - Mexican Independence Day
- Trail of Tears Commemoration Day
- 1810: Mexico issued Grito de Dolores, calling for the end of Spanish rule (Mexican Independence Day)
- 1848: Slavery was abolished in all French territories
- 1913: Thousands of women demonstrated for Dutch female suffrage
- 1926: A hurricane began its path through Florida and Alabama, killing 372 people
- 1926: An Italian-Romanian peace treaty was signed
- 1928: A hurricane hit West Palm Beach and Lake Okeechobee, Florida resulting in 3,000 people’s deaths
- 1929: Police shot at strikers in Maastricht, Netherlands resulting in 2 people’s deaths
- 1941: Jews of Vilna, Poland were confined to the Ghetto
- 1959: French President Charles de Gaulle recognized the Algerian right of self determination
- 1963: The Federation of Malaysia was formed by Malaya, Singapore, British North Borneo (Sabah), and Sarawak
- 1965: The Sobibor trial opened in Hagen, West Germany
- 1972: The first TV series about mixed marriage, “Bridget Loves Bernie”, premiered
- 1975: Papua New Guinea gained independence from Australia
- 1976: The American Episcopal Church approved the ordination of women as priests and bishops
- 1978: 25,000 people died in a 7.7 earthquake in Tabar, Iran
- 1982: The massacre of over 1000 Palestinian refugees at Chatila and Sabra began
- 1992: 900 people died in flooding in Pakistan
- 1992: The US FCC voted to allow competition for local phone service
- 2013: 21 people were killed by Hurricane Ingrid in Mexico
- 2015: An 8.3 magnitude earthquake hit off Chile’s coast killing 11 people and prompting the evacuation of 1 million more
- 2018: Typhoon Mangkhut made landfall near Jiangmen City, China. The 120 mph winds 120 caused towers blocks away in nearby Hong Kong to sway
- 2019: 50,000 workers at General Motors went on strike over pay and factory closings in the US
- 2020: Hurricane Sally made landfall near Gulf Shores, Alabama, as a category 2 storm bringing serious flooding
