- 1945: The US Army liberated 31,601 people from the Dachau Concentration Camp in Germany
- 1965: An Earthquake hit Seattle, Washington. 5 people died
- 1975: Ethiopia nationalized all land
- 1991: A Cyclone struck the Chittagong district in Bangladesh, killing 139,000 people and leaving 10 million homeless
- 1991: Earthquake in the nation of Georgia killed 100
- 1997: The Chemical Weapons Convention of 1993 came into force outlawing production, stockpiling, and use of chemical weapons among its signatories
- 2017: 3 tornadoes hit south east of Dallas, Texas, killing 5 people
