- Good Samaritan Involvement Day
- 1656: Jews were denied the right to build a synagogue in New Amsterdam
- 1900: In France the length of the working day for women and children was limited by law to 11 hours
- 1921: Mongolia (formerly Outer Mongolia) declared independence from China
- 1992: the FCC ruled companies can own 30 AM & 30 FM stations (formerly 12)
- 1992: An earthquake registering 6.8 on the Richter scale killed over 500 in Erzincan, in Eastern Turkey
- 1993: The Blizzard of ’93 hits the Northeastern United States
- 2015: Cyclone Pam causeed widespread damage in Vanuatu and the South Pacific, including approximately 16 deaths
- 2019: California Governor Gavin Newsom announced an indefinite moratorium on the death sentence in the state saying it discriminated against marginalized communities
