- 1797: Emperor Francis I permitted Jews who served in the military in the “Countries of Bohemian Crown” to marry non-Jews
- 1881: Boers signed the Convention of Pretoria making the Transvaal semi-autonomous
- 1944: At the Auschwitz-Birkenau Concentration Camp 4,000 gypsies were gassed by Nazis
- 1960: Niger gained independence from France
- 1966: The South African government banned Beatles records
- 2020: Hurricane Isaias made landfall in the US as a Category 1 hurricane
