- 1205: Pope Innocent III stated that Jews are doomed to perpetual servitude and subjugation due to crucifixion of Jesus
- 1888: Japan’s Bandai volcano erupted for the first time in 1,000 years
- 1927: 89 protesters were massacred by Austrian police in Vienna
- 1961: Spain accepted equal rights for men and women
- 1994: Hundreds of thousands of Hutus fled to Zaire in the Congo near the end of the Rwandan Genocide
- 2009: A 7.9 Magnitude earthquake struck 160 km west of Invercargill, New Zealand, and created a small tsunami
