- Global Hug Your Kid Day
- 1510: 38 Jews were burned at the stake in Berlin, Prussia
- 1692: 5 more people were hanged for witchcraft in Salem, Massachusetts bringing the total hanged for witchcraft to 19
- 1845: A fire in New York City destroyed 1,000 homes and killed many people
- 1848: The first US women’s rights convention was held in Seneca Falls NY
- 1899: The National Brotherhood of Electrical Workers formed
- 1966: Ohio Governor James Rhodes declared a state of emergency in response to race riots in Cleveland
- 1967: Race riots occurred in Durham, North Carolina
- 1977: Floods in Johnstown, Pennsylvania killed 76 people
- 1985: The Val di Stava Dam collapsed, killing 268 people in Val di Stava, Italy
- 2019: A heat wave began across the eastern US affecting 100 million people, killing 6 people, and prompting New York City to declare a state of emergency
