Anniversaries, Holidays, and Observances for June 21, 2021

On This Day
- 1498: Nuremberg, Bavaria’s Jews were expelled by Emperor Maximillian
- 1547: Moscow experienced a Great Fire, which led to one third of the largely wooden city being destroyed and the deaths of between 2,000-3,000 people
- 1661: Russia and Sweden signed the peace treaty, the Treaty of Kardis
- 1915: The US Supreme Court handed down its decision in Guinn v. United States which struck down an Oklahoma law denying the right to vote to some citizens
- 1943: US Federal troops put down a Race Riot in Detroit, Michigan. 30 people were killed
- 1964: Three civil rights workers, Michael Schwerner, Andrew Goodman and James Chaney, disappeared after being released from a Mississippi jail. They were later found murdered by members of the Ku Klux Klan
- 1981: Casablanca, Morocco experienced Bread Riots where between 66 and 637 people were killed
- 1988: Many people were killed at a demonstration against General Ne Win in Rangoon
- 1989: The US Supreme Court ruled burning the US flag is allowed as a political expression
- 1990: The 7.7 Manjil-Rudbar Earthquake and hundreds of aftershocks hit Iran and killed about 50,000 people
