  • Beltane
  • Bladder Cancer Awareness Day

  • 1866: The American Equal Rights Association formed
  • 1867: Reconstruction of the US South began, including black voter registration
  • 1886: A US general strike for 8-hour working day began
  • 1908: The World’s most intense rain shower occurred at Portobelo, Panama dropping 2.47 inches of rain in 3 minutes
  • 1919: Mount Kelud in Indonesia erupted causing a boiling crater lake to break through the crater wall. A total of 5,000 people were killed in 104 small villages
  • 1928: 6 children died and 10 were injured by hailstones in Klausenburg, Romania
  • 1929: Police killed 19 Mayday demonstrators in Berlin
  • 1934: The Philippine legislature accepted a US proposal for independence
  • 1943: SS General Hanns Albin Rauter announced that all Jews would be ‘removed’ from the occupied Netherlands
  • 1951: 600,000 marched for peace and freedom in Germany
  • 1959: West Germany introduced a 5 day work week
  • 1961: Tanganyika (now part of Tanzania) was granted full internal self-government by Britain
  • 1985: US President Reagan ended an embargo against Nicaragua
  • 1991: The Angolan Civil War ended
  • 1994: Tornado and hail storms hit Jiangxi China from this day until May 3rd, 95 people were killed
  • 2009: Same-sex marriage was legalized in Sweden
  • 2013: 16 people were killed in a flash flood in Saudi Arabia
