Many days there are far too many anniversaries, holidays, and observances to post about individually on social media, so in an effort to have more of them available, LLPHP is going to experiment with posting them daily here. On This Day
- National Thank You Note Day
- 1805: France and Austria signed the Peace of Pressburg
- 1877: The Socialist Labor Party of North America held its first national convention
- 1925: The Communist Party of India was founded
- 1939: East Anatolia, Turkey experienced an earthquake
- 1963: The US furnished cereal to the USSR
- 1966: Maulana Karenga established the Kwanzaa holiday
- 1976: The Communist Party of Nepal (Marxist-Leninist) was founded
- 1991: The USSR ceased to exist
- 1997: The Soufriere Hills Volcano on the island of Montserrat erupted creating a small tsunami
- 1998: Severe gales over parts of Ireland, England, and Scotland caused widespread disruption and power outages
- 1999: Severe weather in France killed over 100 people and caused extensive damage to property, trees and the French power grid
- 2003: A magnitude 6.6 earthquake devastated the Iranian city of Bam, killing tens of thousands and destroying Arg-é Bam Citadel
- 2004: A magnitude 9.3 earthquake created a tsunami that devastated coastlines in Sri Lanka, India, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, the Maldives; and killed 230,000 people
- 2006: A magnitude 7.1 earthquake hit Taiwan
- 2015: Floods in Paraguay, Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay displaced 150,000 people
