- Be Humble Day
- European Day for Victims of Crime
- 1349: Jews were expelled from Zurich, Switzerland
- 1774: The British House of Lords ruled authors do not have a perpetual copyright
- 1775: Jews were expelled from the outskirts of Warsaw, Poland
- 1828: Russia and Persia signed the Peace of Turkmantsjai
- 1854: The first meeting of the Republican Party was held in Michigan
- 1856: The first national meeting of the Republican Party was held in Pittsburgh
- 1872: The Prohibition Party held their first national convention in Columbus, Ohio
- 1878: The Greenback Labor Party formed in Toledo, Ohio
- 1887: The Union Labor Party organized in Cincinnati, Ohio
- 1898: A Black postmaster was lynched, and his wife and 3 daughters were shot in Lake City, South Carolina
- 1903: Due to drought the US side of Niagara Falls ran short of water
- 1941: Nazi police raided Amsterdam and rounded up 429 young Jews for deportation to be sent to Buchenwald and Mauthausen concentration camps
- 1979: St Lucia gained independence from Great Britain
- 1980: Afghanistan declared martial law
- 1983: Hindus killed 3000 Muslims in Assam, India
- 1986: The People Power Revolution, a sustained campaign of civil resistance against government violence and election fraud began in the Philippines
- 2011: A magnitude 6.3 earthquake struck Christchurch, New Zealand killing 181 people
- 2016: 10 million people were without water in Delhi after caste protesters in Jat sabotaged the Munak water canal
- 2017: US President Donald Trump overturned an Obama administration directive on Transgender rights to bathroom choice
- 2021: The US death toll from COVID-19 passed 500,000, higher than US deaths in World War I, World War II, and the Vietnam War combined
