- Geek Pride Day
- 1241: The first attack on the Jewish community of Frankfurt am Main, Germany occurred
- 1521: The Edict of Worms outlawed Martin Luther and his followers
- 1721: John Copson became America’s first insurance agent
- 1738: A treaty between Pennsylvania and Maryland ended the Conojocular War with settlement of a boundary dispute and exchange of prisoners
- 1784: Jews were expelled from Warsaw by Marshall Mniszek
- 1861: John Merryman was arrested under a suspension of writ of habeas corpus which later sparked a US Supreme Court decision protecting writ
- 1887: A gas lamp at the Paris Opera caught fire leading to the deaths of 200 people
- 1914: The British House of Commons passed the Irish Home Rule Bill
- 1941: 5,000 people drowned in a storm in the Ganges Delta region in India
- 1946: Jordan gained independence from Britain
- 1947: A coal dust explosion rocked Centralia Coal Company’s Mine #5 killing 111 people
- 1955: A series of 19 tornadoes destroyed Udall, Kansas and most of Blackwell, Oklahoma
- 1959: The US Supreme Court ruled it unconstitutional for Louisiana to prohibit black-white boxing
- 1962: The US AFL-CIO started campaigning for a 35-hour work week
- 1963: The Organization for African Unity was formed by Chad, Mauritania, and Zambia
- 1964: The US Supreme Court ruled closing schools to avoid desegregation was unconstitutional
- 1983: A fire in Nassermeer, Egypt killed 357 people
- 1985: A cyclone ravaged Bangladesh killing 11,000 people
- 1991: Israel evacuated 14,000 Ethiopian Jews
- 2019: A tornado tore through El Reno, Oklahoma killing people and injuring dozens
