- World Orienteering Day
- 1647: Massachusetts disallowed priests access to the colony
- 1857: US slave Dred Scott and his family were freed by their owner Henry Taylor Blow, only 3 months after US courts ruled against them in Dred Scott v. Sandford
- 1868: US President Andrew Johnson was acquitted by the Senate by one vote during his impeachment trial
- 1905: A pogrom against Jews began in Minsk, Belorussia
- 1918: Georgian Social Democratic Republic declared independence from Russia
- 1924: US President Calvin Coolidge signed an immigration law restricting immigration
- 1930: The US Supreme Court ruled buying liquor does not violate the Constitution
- 1942: Belgian Jews were required by Nazis to wear a Jewish star
- 1943: Jews rioted against Germany in Amsterdam
- 1965: The Dutch Voting Rights Bill passed
- 1966: Guyana (formerly British Guiana) declared independence from the UK

- 2004: The New York Times published an admission of journalistic failings and claimed its flawed reporting and lack of skepticism during the buildup to the 2003 Iraq War helped promote the belief Iraq possessed large stockpiles of weapons of mass destruction
- 2018: Ireland voted to repeal their 8th Amendment to allow legalized abortion with 66.4% of votes in support
- 2020: Costa Rica became the first county in Central America to legalize same-sex marriage
