• National Mentoring Day (UK)
• 1676: Poland and Turkey signed the Peace of Warsaw
• 1838: Missouri governor Lilburn Boggs issued an Extermination Order, which ordered all members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons) to leave the state or be exterminated
• 1893: A hurricane hit the US coast between Savannah, Georgia and Charleston, South Carolina
• 1913: President Woodrow Wilson said the US will never attack another country
• 1917: 20,000 women marched in a protest parade for women’s suffrage in New York City
• 1959: A rare Pacific hurricane killed 2,000 people in Western Mexico
• 1979: St Vincent and Grenadines became independent from the UK
• 1985: Hurricane Juan ravaged the US Gulf States and East Coast causing the deaths of 49 people
• 2005: Riots began in Paris after the deaths of two Muslim teenagers
• 2012: Thousands demonstrated in Madrid against the Spanish government’s proposed budget cuts
• 2017: The Catalan Parliament unilaterally declared independence from Spain
• 2019: California Governor Gavin Newson declared a state of emergency because of multiple wildfires across the state
