  • 1804: Ohio passed a law restricting the movement of African Americans
  • 1917: Jews were expelled from Tel Aviv and Jaffa by Turkish authorities
  • 1970: 1,086 died when a 7.4 earthquake destroyed 254 villages in Gediz, Turkey
  • 1979: A partial meltdown at Three Mile Island nuclear plant in the US resulted in the release of radioactive gas and iodine into the atmosphere but no deaths
  • 2005: an 8.7 earthquake rocked Indonesia killing about 1300 people
