- 1649: The Maryland Toleration Act was passed, allowing freedom of worship for Christians but sentencing to death anyone who rejected the divinity of Jesus
- 1654: England and Sweden signed a trade agreement
- 1794: New York City formally declared the coast of Ellis Island publicly owned so they could build forts to protect NYC from the British
- 1930: A fire at the Ohio State Penitentiary killed 322 people
- 1935: King Boris of Bulgaria forbade all political parties
- 1970: The Principality of Hutt River, previously Hutt River Province, claimed to have seceded from Australia, though it remained unrecognised by Australia or any other nation until it was dissolved in August of 2020
- 1989: Thousands of people crowded into Beijing’s Tiananmen Square cheering on students demanding greater freedoms
- 2020: US President Donald Trump announced a new 60-day ban on most green cards for the US
- 2021: The Manhattan District Attorney’s office announced it would no longer prosecute prostitution and dismissed 914 open cases, as part of a growing movement to change the approach to prostitution
