- International Migrants Day
- 1774: Empress Maria Theresa expelled Jews from Prague, Bohemia, and Moravia
- 1917: The 18th Amendment to the US Constitution, authorizing the prohibition of alcohol, was approved by Congress and sent to the States for ratification
- 1944: The US Supreme Court ruled in Korematsu v United States that removing citizens and non-citizens of Japanese ancestry from their property and taking their property was legal, but in Ex parte Mitsuye Endo ruled their internment was not constitutional
- 1958: Niger gained autonomy within the French Community
- 1969: The British House of Lords voted to abolish the death penalty in England, Wales, and Scotland
- 2019: The US House of Representatives voted to impeach President Donald Trump for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress
