- Christmas Eve
- 1593: A storm hit Texel, Netherlands including a fleet of anchored ships. 40 ships were lost and over 500 people were killed
- 1904: German SW Africa abolished the slavery of young children
- 1935: The US’ National Council of Negro Women formed
- 1951: United Kingdom of Libya gained independence from Italy
- 1954: Laos gained its independence
- 1973: The District of Columbia Home Rule Act was passed, allowing residents of Washington, DC to elect their own local government
