Many days there are far too many anniversaries, holidays, and observances to post about individually on social media, so in an effort to have more of them available, LLPHP is going to experiment with posting them daily.   • International Day of Persons with Disabilities

  • 1347: Pope Clemens VI declared the Roman Tribunal Cola di Rienzo heretics
  • 1685: Charles II barred Jews from settling in Stockholm, Sweden
  • 1835: The first fire insurance policy was issued by a US mutual fire insurance company in Rhode Island
  • 1868: African Americans were appointed to serve on a jury for the first time for the trial of Confederate leader Jefferson Davis
  • 1920: Turkey and Armenia agreed to peace treaty
  • 1944: Hungarian death marches of Jews ended
  • 1958: The Indonesian Parliament accepted the nationalization of Dutch businesses
  • 1962: Edith Spurlock Sampson was sworn in as the first black female judge in the US
  • 2007: Devastating winter storms caused the Chehalis River to flood many cities in Lewis County, Washington, closing a 20-mile portion of Interstate 5 for several days and resulting in at least eight people’s deaths and billions of dollars of damage
  • 2014: Protests erupted in cities across the US after a grand jury decided not to charge the New York City police officer who killed Eric Garner with a choke-hold
