  • Make Your Dreams Come True Day
  • 532: The Nika riots, a revolt against Emperor Justinian I, began in Constantinople, prompted by chariot racing
  • 1404: The Act of Multipliers was passed by the English Parliament forbidding alchemists to use their knowledge to create precious metals for fear that if any alchemist should succeed it would bring ruin upon the State
  • 1869: The Colored National Labor Union, the first Black labor convention met in Washington, DC
  • 1893: The British Independent Labour Party formed
  • 1915: An earthquake in Avezzano, Italy killed 29,800 people
  • 1939: The Black Friday bush fires burned 20,000 square kilometres of land in Australia and killed 71 people
  • 1964: Hindu and Muslim rioting broke out in the Indian city of Calcutta resulting in the deaths of more than 100 people
  • 1970: Riots began in the Ballymurphy area of Belfast
  • 1988: The US Supreme Court ruled that public school officials have broad powers to censor school newspapers, plays and other expressive activities
  • 1990: Douglas Wilder of Virginia was inaugurated as the first elected African American Governor in the US
  • 1992: Japan apologized for forcing Korean women into sexual slavery during World War II
  • 2001: An earthquake measuring magnitude 7.6 struck El Salvador, killing more than 840 people
  • 2021: President Donald Trump was impeached by the US House of Representatives for “incitement of insurrection”, the first time in history a US President was impeached twice
  • 2021: Irish PM Minister Micheal Martin issued an apology for the treatment of unmarried mothers and babies in church-run institutions from 1920 into the 1990s after reports were released that 9,000 children had died
