  • International (Working) Women’s Day
  • UN Day for Women’s Rights and International Peace
  • 1658: The Peace of Roskilde was signed between Sweden and Denmark
  • 1782: The Ohio militia killed 90 Native Americans in the Gnadenhutten Massacre
  • 1884: Susan B. Anthony addressed the US House Judiciary Committee arguing for a Constitutional amendment granting women the right to vote, 16 years after legislators first introduced a federal women’s suffrage amendment
  • 1894: The state of New York enacted the nation’s first dog-licensing law
  • 1913: The Internal Revenue Service began levying and collecting income taxes
  • 1943: Limited gambling was legalized in Mexico
  • 1945: 53 Amsterdammers were executed by Nazi occupiers
  • 1945: International Women’s Day was first observed
  • 1945: Phyllis M Daley became the first black nurse sworn in as a US Navy ensign
  • 1948: The US Supreme Court ruled in McCollum v Board of Education that religious instruction in public schools is unconstitutional
  • 1964: Malcolm X resigned from the Nation of Islam
  • 1968: Students demonstrated in Warsaw
  • 1994: The US Defense Department announced a ban on smoking in workplaces
  • 2013: North Korea terminated all peace pacts with South Korea
  • 2018: US President Donald Trump authorized tariffs on steel and aluminum, excluding Canada and Mexico
  • 2018: 5 million Spanish women marked International Women’s Day by striking over gender inequality and sexual discrimination
  • 2020: Italy announced it was locking down the northern region of Lombardy, including Milan, with 16 million people, as COVID-19 cases reached 5,800 with 233 people’s deaths
