On This Day

  • I’m Not Going To Take It Anymore Day
  • 1608: Fire destroyed Jamestown, Virginia
  • 1622: Germany and Transylvania signed the Peace of Nikolsburg
  • 1654: After a heavy storm. a fire destroyed two thirds of De Rijp, Netherlands and killed 1 person
  • 1892: A mine explosion in Krebs, Oklahoma killed 100 people. Black Americans trying to help rescue white survivors were driven away with guns
  • 1946: Cambodia became an autonomous state inside the French Union
  • 1964: The Bahamas became self-governing
  • 2015: A terrorist attack on the offices of satirical newspaper “Charlie Hebdo” in Paris killed 12 people and injured 11 after a cartoon drawing upset many Muslims
  • 2018: The Greater Western Sydney, Australia area experienced its hottest day in 80 years as Penrith reached 47.3 degrees C
  • 2018: Aïn Séfra, in Northwest Algeria’s Sahara Desert received 15 inches of snow
  • 2020: A 6.4 earthquake in Puerto Rico,the island’s largest in a century, killed 1 person and destroyed 800 homes
