  • Armistice Day
  • Veterans Day
  • 1647: Massachusetts passed the first compulsory school attendance law in the American Colonies
  • 1811: Cartagena, Colombia declared independence from Spain
  • 1918: Poland declared independence
  • 1918: The WWI Armistice signed by the Allies and Germany went into effect and World War I hostilities end “the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month”
  • 1940: A blizzard struck the Midwestern US killing over 100 people
  • 1942: 745 French Jews were deported to Auschwitz
  • 1942: Jews in the Free Zone of France were ordered to wear a yellow star of David
  • 1942: Transport #45 departed for Nazi Germany with French Jews aboard
  • 1971: A human caused earthslide at Kawasaki, Japan, killed 15 people
  • 1975: Angola gained independence from Portugal
  • 2012: 12 people were killed by a magnitude 6.8 earthquake in Burma
  • 2013: 100 people were killed in a tropical cyclone in the Puntland region of Somalia
  • 2014: The people of Catalonia in north-eastern Spain voted on independence in a disputed and non-binding poll
  • 2019: Continuing Hong Kong protests experienced a violent day with one person set on fire and another shot amid a general strike
  • 2019: More than 120 bush fires in Australia caused the country to declare a state of emergency in two states with a catastrophic threat issued for the Sydney region
  • 2019: An Arctic blast brought record low temperatures for November to much of the US Midwest
  • 2020: The UK became the first European country, and fifth in the world, to record over 50,000 deaths from COVID-19
  • 2020: All of Hong Kong’s pro-democracy lawmakers resigned after China passed a resolution allowing for the removal of four of their colleagues
