- 1933: The Black Blizzard snowstorm/duststorm raged across the eastern half of the US from South Dakota to the Atlantic
- 1938: An 8.3 earthquake shook the area East of Shumagin Islands, Alaska
- 1960: The uncensored version of D. H. Lawrence’s “Lady Chatterley’s Lover” finally went on sale in the UK after a jury found publisher Penguin Books not guilty in an obscenity trial
