  • World Diabetes Day
  • 1915: Tomáš Masaryk demanded independence for Czechoslovakia
  • 1921: The Communist Party of Spain was founded
  • 1935: US President Franklin D Roosevelt proclaimed the Philippine Islands a free commonwealth
  • 1935: Nazis deprived German Jews of their citizenship
  • 1941: Governor-General Wouters of the Dutch Antilles refused the Jews refuge
  • 1960: Riots occurred due to school integration in New Orleans
  • 1985: Columbia’s Nevado del Ruiz Volcano erupted, killing thousands of people
  • 1993: Puerto Rico voted against becoming the 51st US state
  • 2016: A 7.8 earthquake cut off the town of Kaikoura, New Zealand by raising the sea bed by 4 meters. The quake killed 2 people
