- 1421: The Southern Sea flooded 72 villages, killing an estimated 10,000 people in the Netherlands
- 1424: Storm flooding ravaged the Dutch coast
- 1738: France and Austria signed a peace treaty
- 1755: The worst recorded quake in the Massachusetts Bay area struck Boston, fortunately no deaths were reported
- 1872: Suffragette Susan B. Anthony was arrested by a US Deputy Marshal and charged with illegally voting
- 1918: Latvia declared independence from Russia
- 1929: A large earthquake in the Atlantic broke transatlantic cables in 28 places
- 1956: Morocco gained independence
- 2003: The Congress of the Communist Party of Indian Union (Marxist-Leninist) decided to merge the party into Kanu Sanyal’s CPI (ML)
- 2003: In England, the Local Government Act 2003, repealing controversial anti-gay amendment Section 28, went into effect
- 2003: The Massachusetts Supreme Court ruled the state’s ban on same-sex marriages was unconstitutional
- 2020: Floods and landslides effected more than 3 million people, killing at least 70 people in the wake of Typhoon Vamco in Cagayan Province, Philippines
- 2020: The COVID-19 death toll passed 250,000, with recorded cases at 11.5 million, and hospitalizations at 76,830 amid a country-wide surge in the US
