  • Intersex Day of Rememberance
  • National Parents As Teachers Day
  • National STEM/STEAM Day
  • 1575: French Roman Catholics and Huguenots signed a treaty
  • 1701: William Penn presented the Charter of Privileges which guaranteed religious freedom for the Pennsylvania colony
  • 1837: Mount Holyoke Seminary, the first US college founded for women, was founded in Massachusetts
  • 1910: For the first time since 1894, the US elected a Democratic Congress, including the first socialist Congressman ever, Victor L Berger of Milwaukee
  • 1941: The Albanian Communist Party was founded
  • 1944: 25,000 Hungarian Jews were “loaned” to Nazis for forced labor
  • 1966: Edward W. Brooke (Massachusetts) became the first African American popularly elected to the US Senate
  • 1979: The Chilean Communist Party (Proletarian Action) was formed
  • 1988: 900 people died in an earthquake in China
  • 1992: 300,000 people demonstrated against racism in Berlin
  • 2005: Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf was elected president of Liberia and became the first woman to lead an African country
  • 2013: At least 6,000 people were killed after Typhoon Haiyan, tied for the strongest storm ever recorded at landfall, hit the Philippines
  • 2014: Protests against the secretive Trans-Pacific Partnership negotiations occurred across New Zealand
  • 2018: The Camp Fire, the deadliest fire in Californian history, started. It would destroy the town of Paradise and kill at least 88 people. The Woolsey Fire started near Thousand Oaks causing the evacuations of Malibu and Calabasas and killing three people
  • 2020: The total global recorded cases of COVID-19 passed 50 million, with the known death toll at 1,245,240 according to Johns Hopkins data
  • 2020: Kamala Harris made US history as the first woman and first woman of color to be elected to the vice presidency
