On This Day
- 1906: 3000 Black Americans demonstrated and rioted in Philadelphia
- 1916: US suffragette Inez Milholland collapses during a speech in Los Angeles. Her last words were directed at President Woodrow Wilson: “Mr. President, how long must women wait for liberty?” She died weeks later
- 1951: An earthquake hit Formosa leaving 100 people dead
- 1953: Laos gained full independence from France
- 1961: 75,000 Flemings demanded equal rights and the Flemish language in Belgium
- 1963: 225,000 students boycotted Chicago schools in a Freedom Day protest
- 1968: US President Lyndon Johnson signed the Gun Control Act of 1968
