- 1941: Police raided the 11th district of Paris and took away over 4,000 Jewish males
- 1955: Hundreds were killed in anti-French rioting in Morocco and Algeria
- 1960: Senegal declared independence from the Mali Federation
- 1970: Hurricane Dorothy killed 42 people in Martinique
- 1988: A 6.5 earthquake struck India and Nepal killing thousands of people
- 1991: Estonia formally declared independence from the USSR
- 2012: 20 people were killed in a riot in Caracas, Venezuela
