• Good Deeds Day
• Weed Out Hate, Sow The Seeds of Greatness Day
• 1913: British suffragette Emmeline Pankhurst was sentenced to 3 years in jail
• 1919: Austria expelled all Habsburgers
• 1925: Great Britain went back on the gold standard
• 1944: The US Supreme Court, in Smith v Allwright, ruled that “white primaries” unconstitutional
• 1955: The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) announced it was defending Allen Ginsberg’s book “Howl” against obscenity charges
• 1956: Michigan’s Lower Peninsula’s western half was struck by the Hudsonville-Standale Tornado, which killed 17 people
• 1960: An earthquake occurred at Havre, Belgium
• 1964: The US and Panama agreed to resume diplomatic relations
• 1970: As part of a new ‘get tough’ policy in Northern Ireland the British Army warned those throwing petrol bombs could be shot dead
• 1974: The “Super Outbreak”, the second largest tornado outbreak over 24hr period with 148 confirmed tornadoes in 13 US states, killed approximately 315 people and injuring nearly 5,500
• 1981: Race riots took place in London’s Brixton area, England
• 1997: The Thalit massacre in Algeria began, where guerrillas killed all but 1 of the 53 inhabitants of Thalit
• 2013: 50 people were killed by flooding across Argentina
• 2016: The Panama Papers, 11.5 million confidential documents from offshore law firm Mossack Fonseca that exposed widespread illegal activities including fraud, kleptocracy, tax evasion and the violation of international sanctions by the world’s elite, were published in the world’s largest ever data leak
• 2019: Brunei enacted new Sharia laws punishing gay sex and adultery with death by stoning, prompting widespread condemnation
