• Endangered Species Act Day
• 1828: A 6.8 earthquake struck Echigo Japan, killing 30,000 people
• 1836: Spain recognized Mexico’s independence
• 1850: Rangoon, Burma was destroyed by fire
• 1908: An earthquake struck Messina, Italy, killing nearly 80,000 people
• 1974: A 6.3 earthquake struck Pakistan, killing 5,200 people
• 1975: An earthquake occurred in Pakistan and 4,000 people died
• 1985: Warring Lebanese Muslim and Christian leaders signed a peace agreement
• 1989: An earthquake hit Newcastle, Australia, causing 11 people’s deaths
• 2007: Nepal was declared a federal democratic Republic by the interim parliament, abolishing their monarchy
• 2017: Iranian woman Vida Mohaved was arrested for protesting against the policy of compulsory hijabs, sparking further protests
