- 1349: The Jews of Freilsburg, Germany were massacred
- 1607: Massive flooding in England destroyed around 200 square miles of coastline and killed about 2,000 people
- 1648: Spain and the Netherlands signed the Peace of Munster ending the Thirty Years’ War
- 1667: The Treaty aka Truce of Andrusovo was signed between the Tsardom of Russia and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth
- 1797: The US Congress refused to accept the first petition from an African American
- 1877: A storm and flooding ravaged the Dutch coastal provinces
- 1913: The UK House of Lords rejected an Irish Home Rule Bill
- 1939: Adolf Hitler threatened Jews during his speech to the German Reichstag
- 1939: Severe aftershocks from a recent earthquake did significant damage to parts of Chile
- 1948: Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated by a Hindu extremist
- 1951: Belgium refused to allow communists to make speeches on the radio
- 1958: The UK House of Lords passed a bill allowing women to take seats in that house
- 1960: The African National Party was founded in Chad
- 1993: 100,000 Europeans demonstrated against fascism and racism
- 2003: Belgium legally recognized same-sex marriages
- 2019: A continuous 24 hour a day church mass lasting 97 days held at Protestant Bethel Church in The Hague to prevent deportation of Armenian asylum seekers ended after Dutch authorities reconsidered
- 2020: The World Health Organization (WHO) declareed COVID-19 a Public Health Emergency of International Concern
